Keeping Blueberries Healthy & Free of Disease

The people working in the greenhouses and fields at Rutgers Philip E. Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research in Chatsworth, Burlington County, are protecting our blueberries from disease. Interview with Dr. Nicholi Vorsa, Center Director.

Making Blueberry Pie & Sipping Blueberry Wine

Discover the infamous Penza’s Pies at the Red Barn Café, Hammonton. Blueberry pies, with a secret recipe, were prepared right in front of us by Evelyn Penza though no secret ingredients were divulged. Plus a tasting at award-winning Plagido’s Winery in Hammonton, Atlantic County, where a fruity blueberry wine is produced.

House & Village Tour Featuring Suningive & Whitesbog Village

Come stroll with Megan and Rick through charming Historic Whitesbog Village and tour Elizabeth White’s home Suningive in Burlington County. Elizabeth White was an agricultural specialist who, with Frederick Vernon Colville, developed a cultivated blueberry. Host: Megan Gunning Patterson. Protecting the Aquifer

A side trip takes us to Pakim Pond in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest to talk with Rebecca Free of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance about the importance of clean water for blueberry production and the individuals instrumental in protecting the Pine Barrens aquifer many years ago including former Governor Brendan T. Byrne.
